Would you trade a pre 1994 M1A (M14) rifle w/ 2 stocks, and appx. 20 GI mags for a M76 in 8mm?

Not many M76 are around. Cool factor. Powerful round.

One negative is ammo cost. 8mm isn't exactly cheap.

You can always pick up an M1A fairly easy.

I'm Bosnian, so I'm biased, although the M1A is one of my favorite 308's.

I agree with all, but one point... My M1A was a pre 1994 gun... That makes it pretty rare with the full auto cut out, and the Bayonet lug... If it was a post 2004 rifle, I'd do it in a heart beat. And 2nd I have a bunch of .308 match ammo...

That's a tough one. They look to be selling @ around the same price with the pre-ban M14 nudging ahead slightly.

Nice thing is, you can make 8mm out of 30-06 if you want, and can still find steel case surplus cans.

I get that, but at the end of the day, you can get a M1A much easier and cheaper. Yes, it won't be like yours, but it will still be an M1A. If you can't do without yours, then keep it.

But the M76 is much harder to come by, and they were imported in low numbers.

He has a good point. You definitely don't see many M76 pop up for sale.

I know its cool, but there are 4 of the on Gunbroker, only 1 has bids, The others appear to have no activity..

Now, there are nearly 3 pages of M1A's, and only 3 'pre-ban" ones that I saw. They both seem to be equally uncommon. Given that I really don't know the value of either 100%, but I would say the M76 would need some boot with it.

My personal opinion, keep the M1A, but I LOVE those rifles!

Pre 94 M1A is going to be almost all USGI parts. If that is the case with yours, it is worth 2 M76s.

My parents bought it for me as a graduation gift in the summer of 1993. I think I still have the the receipt form Ga. Firing line ( Eds at the time) somewhere. Maybe I should keep it, as both of my parents are long gone.
