Yes, he quoted $400 to completely take the barrel out, thread it, reassemble, and re finish it and another $400 to replace the rear trunnion and install the stock.Did I read that right? $800 to thread your barrel? He must be planning on pressing out, depopulating, threading & then reassembly. If I thought I could get $400 for that job, I'd be advertising for it.
Or was that including the side folder trunion installation($250 job)?
Normally, AK guys are cheapskates. That's why I quit offering to do that kind of work.
Since then I went ahead and ordered a 7" fake suppressor for the M26 LH threads to use for the months im waiting on my form 1, a US made manticore triangle stock and the StormWerkz folding hinge. This setup is not as sturdy but since no one wants to do it right for a reasonable amount of money ill live I suppose lol.
BTW in all fairness he did say he intentionally prices himself out of having to do AK work in general. He said profit is low and the work is high. Hed rather stick to other forms of business. I did however find a guy out in texas that runs Class 3 Machining that will do the barrel job for $90. He said to remove the handguards and something else easy, and he can do it concentric even still in the receiver. So once approved by the atf ill be sending it out to him for some 1/2x28 threads.
