I have really been enjoying .22lr here lately. It is fun to sit at the range and shoot clays at 100 meters (thanks @jwtug)

I still really like the 6.8 SPC round.

Maybe it's popularity has subsided due to the 300 BLK, but it's everything you need to hunt medium-sized game in GA.

It's not the ballistic equivalent of 308, but it fits in a smaller, lighter rifle and provides about 80% of the energy.

I have now taken 3 deer and 1 feral hog with this round and all were one shot, then drop within 30 yards.

Nice I've been wanting to try out 6.8 spc. Also want to try that 6.5 Grendel. Decisions decisions.

I researched building a 6.5 grendel but ultimately chose not to do so.

apparently, it's becoming quite popular in Russia because of its case dimensions being similar to other popular cartridges there. this equals cheap tula ammo! also, it out performs the 6.8 at range. these are the pros.

the reasons I ultimately decided against it were that I rarely shoot past 300 yards which is where the grendel begins to outpace the 6.8. this would be a hunting rifle mainly, and you can't even see past two hundred yards or so from my stand. also, I'm 4 for 4 with my current setup so why switch?

also, I've noticed that most of the barrel offerings are for 18" to 22" for the AR. I prefer a cartridge that maximizes performance out of 16" or less. if I wanted to carry a big rifle around the woods, might as well "upgrade" from 6.8 to 308 and skip 6.5 all together.

I still think it's a great round; I just don't have a need for it in my stable at the moment.
