Yeah, I thought about one too but it's a Mossberg. I just don't think I could get over that.
I've had good luck with mossberg in the past. I was thinking of .308 but I think I'd rather have .223 for cheaper ammo and the MVP takes AR mags.
I have no problems with their shotguns, it's just tough to say "precision" and "mossberg" in the same sentence, lol.. Like "Hyundai" and "Luxury"...even though it's becoming true.
Hyundai makes the Equus(now called G90) that starts at $70k and has all the same features as a Maybach.
Honestly firearms technology has gotten to the point that 1moa is easy and cheap to get. My sub $200 savage can shoot 1moa out of the box. I just want something for up to 4-500 yards is all.
Oh I totally agree, I've just been in guns for so long that it's a hard leap for me to make.
Well if I end up getting one I'll be sure to let you shoot it and see if it changes your mind.
Or I might get it and hate it myself.
I'm more concerned with the bolt reliability feeding from AR mags. The bolt is a little funny looking.
It ain't for me, it's for a buddy, and it's gotta be the Gen3 PRS. He wants a sloped bottom so it will ride on a rear bag better for long range prone shooting. Going on a Ruger PR in 6.5 Creedmoor.
3 years ago I bought my daughter a Mossberg MVP Varmint in 5.56. 24" fluted barrel and laminate stock. When she was 10YOA she was ringing steel at 800yds with it.
When I first got it there was an issue with the bolt head. Basically, a hole for a pin was drilled wrong. I called Mossberg and got them to send me a new bolt head. Haven't had another problem with it in the 3 years since then.
I'll admit I had reservation about the bolt design, which enables it to feed from staggered feed AR mags, but it's been flawless with the second bolt head. We've run hundreds of rounds through it with no issues.
I had the MVP Patrol in .308. It was a great gun, fed great from PMags, and shot very well. I had it topped with a 1-4x24mm Burris MTAC and it shot a solid 1MOA. With a higher powered scope I'm sure I could have tightened that up.
Sweet. I think it is the route I'm going to go for a precision gun. I think it will fit my needs perfectly.
You're welcome to put some rounds down range through my daughter's rifle......but you'll have to ask her nicely! LOL
I've since cut and crowned it to 20". Soon I'm gonna carry it up to Accurate Ordnance to be threaded.
I may take you (and her) up on that when I get the funds saved up so I can make sure I like it before I buy it.
