So, with the current wait times, I thinK I need to start planning for a 9mm can for my SET AR9 build. The plan is to run it under the handguard. I'm planning on 10" handguard with a 5.5" barrel.

Would need to be:
< 1.375" in diameter
1/2 x 28 thread
< 8" in length

I was liking what I was reading on:
AAC Ti-Rant 9 -- but it's a little too big in diameter
AAC Illusion 9 -- But I would imagine that the offset would not work in the handguard

So, I'm interested now in possibly:
Griffin Armament Resistance 9

or
Gemtech GM9

WHAT SAY YOU?

Of course, then again, if I'm thinking of a 45acp upper in the future maybe I should look at a 45 can!

DAMN IT!!!

Or is there not enough suppression for 9mm out of a 45 can?

I've got a Tirant-9 and like it. Honestly, I can't tell much difference shooting it vs. the Guardian 9 (much cheaper- but also looks cheap).

I don't recall the specs on it, but it doesn't seem that big around.

And .45 out of an Octane HD .45 is slightly louder than 9mm out of the Tirant or Guardian... however, it's not noticeable to me. It's kind of like saying this guy slammed a door a little louder than that guy.

I have no first hand knowledge, but if you could get a 9mm end cap for the .45 can, it would probably be about the same.

They say the Rugged .45 Obsidian is pretty damn quiet on a 9mm even with the .45 cap. And it's diameter is 1.37....

Is it that the long setup is for 45 and short more towards 9mm?

What is the piston for?
Long is quieter with more baffles stacked and the short config is lighter but a touch louder. That goes for 9 or 45 either one

The piston is for shooting on pistols because the barrel moves you need the piston. On straight barrels PCC no need for it but you'll need the adapter to replace the spring.

If you plan on 45 get a 45 rated can and shoot both or you'll end up with 2 cans later.

Research all and weigh out the pros and cons of each. Watch videos and listen to the sound it makes. Pick the one you like

I have the Tirant 9s you are welcome to shoot btw. It's the short configuration only. I lost some of the sound suppression because I wanted a lighter can. AAC has a modular one now SiCo has Omega and Omega K.

Also, some of the .45 cans are rated for .300 BLK subs. I think the Dead Air is, and I KNOW the Rugged is.

I run a TiRant45 on my AR9. Of course, it has a 16" barrel, so not really an issue and it is nice to swap pistons and run it on both 9mm pistols and 45 acp. Check the thread pitch on the barrel you are looking at as it may determine what can you get.

@DoglegArms has a smoking deal on a few cans right now. The Innovative Arms Shepard comes to mind for what you are wanting to do.

The only issue with that is the OD. The Shepherd is 1.5". He needed no more than 1.375". But it IS a screaming good deal. Also, @SouthernSlammed , watch your barrel thread pitch. I know you listed 1/2x28, which is most 9mm pistols, but a lot of 9mm PCC's are 1/2x36. I know Ballistic Advantage offers both thread pitches in a 5.5"

You're welcome to play with the Octane 9 and the Revolution 45 if you can get over my way one day. I've been very happy with both of those purchases. The Octane 9 is perfectly at home under the rail of my SBR.

Ah, missed the OD requirement. I know he had the IA 9SX too. It is 1.375".

Get the Gemtech 9 can! Talk to @DoglegArms for a great deal. It is what I ordered for a dedicated can for the Mac and I love it.

I also vote for the Tirant 9. I love mine. I run it under a handguard on an AR9 as well. Barrel is 4" if I remember right. I had to go with the ALG rail to make it fit. It was the only relatively cheap option to fit the can under it. I think it sounds great, is easily serviceable, parts are easy to come by and cheap ish...
