What optic for a Bushmaster BA50?

I personally think the Vortex is overkill for GA. I don't see any reason why a SWFA Super Sniper for $400 won't do the trick.

I've shot with several vortex from the cheapest to the ones that are over $1000 and they were all very nice. I don't know how big an issue it may be but the recoil from a .50BMG may damage a cheaper scope.

A decent fixed 12x scope would be perfect.

I don't like scopes with a top end much higher than 25x. Rarely are you able to use anything much over that power range, especially in the SE US when you're having to deal with mirage.

I had no issues ringing steel at 2,500yds with a Nightforce BEAST 5-25X56MM on my DRD Tactical .338 Lapua.

The Nightforce ATACR 5-25X56MM would be a good option. If he's only using it as a range toy, then save some money and get the SFP version. Retail prices are $2,999 for FFP and $2,619 for SFP.

The Nightforce ATACR 7-35X56MM F1 would be my first recommendation.......I'll be buying one soon for my .338. Retail is $3,492.

The Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50mm and 5.5-22x56mm have always been solid performers. Retail is $2,028 for either.

If those are too expensive, look at the Nightforce SHV 5-20X56MM. Retail prices are $1,171 without illumination and $1,299 with.

If your friend is interested in a Nightforce scope, have him contact Mike Cecil at CS Tactical and tell him Shep sent him.

The BA-50 is an interesting rifle. I did one of the first online reviews of that rifle, when it was the Cobb Mfg FA-50. It shot it very well.

A friend of mine just bought a Bushmaster BA50 50BMG and is looking at optic options. He is looking at the Vortex Golden Eagle but wants options and opinions before dropping that much on an optic. He wants to shoot 800+ yards.

I think I'd need the Hubble Telescope to hit at 800+.

@cmshoot gets my vote. If anyone knows their glass, it's him. I took my $450 Vortex Viper to 600 no problem. But that was on an AR. 50 might be a whole nother ball game bro.

Get with me! I've totally forgotten what we talked about for your setup.

Yeah... I just need to give her to you and let you just build her out the way you'd want it. I have a Remington 700 .308 and a NightForce optic that I want to marry.

Sounds good. I've got plenty of rings on hand, may have a base. It not, easy to pick one up.
