What is the appeal of the Ruger Charger?

I love Ruger. I love rimfire rifles and pistols but it seems to me that this thing is just impractical. I saw one of these sitting on the counter at the Gun Room in Conyers yesterday and my first thought is that it's a cool looking little rig. Then I picked it up and my second thought is what the hell and I supposed to do with this?

I thought I wanted get one to mess around with, but now I'm not so sure. I've never shot one, so someone tell me what they like about it.

You can do that will a rifle and then you don't have to buy a stock. Either way you have to cut/replace the barrel.

They are impractical. Just traded mine away. Shot great and dead balls accurate but not good for much but plinking.

My only appeal, other than it's a Ruger, put a bipod & scope on it and it's a great bench plinker! Not sure of a practical side!

I like that it's compact easy to pack. They are a lightweight alternative to the full stock. Still a great prone or bench shooter it's a little tough to hold zero past 50 yds withoutout bipod is my only negative. It's a fun gun that's sumthin different than the norm and you can't loose with 22's.

great varmint setup when driving the property in a truck or suv.

if you see an armadillo or other undesired critter, this thing deploys out of a window pretty quickly.

It's about as useful as an ar pistol. Maybe a little more so because it doesn't have a buffer tube..

I disagree about the ar pistol. I took 4 deer with mine. It's like any other firearm, go with what you know and are comfortable with.

If you read my prior post , I had a charger takedown. I liked the platform until I got it. At 60yrds I was drilling hole in hole but it just felt impractical.

With any mag over the 10 rounds it became cumbersome and awkward to use.

I read it. It is what it is. It's a short barreled rifle with no stock. I guess you disagree with the comparison to an AR pistol and that's ok. To each his own.

I don't get it personally. I've shot one and it was nice but if I'm gonna have a "pistol" that is that big I'd like a Thompson Contender with easily swappable barrels so that I'm not limited to one caliber. @00formula6spd @Speednut and myself were shooting balloons at 300 yards with @Speednut's Contender .357.

As for carrying yes the charger is great when broken down. But if you don't have the takedown the ar when taken down doesn't take up that much more room.

I am in process of building other caliber uppers for mine. With the ar platform you have several good choices.
