Upgraded a student’s M4

Started as a stock DD V7LW. Nothing wrong with it and she ran very, very well. Student is a short-statured, small female, and chose this particular carbine on my recommendation.

Left it mostly stock while she learned how to run it. Only changes were a Smith Enterprise flash hider and RRA 2-stage NM trigger. Once she got to a certain level, and was comfortable with running it, I made some upgrades.

Small hands beg for a small rail, so I swapped the factory unit out for a Seekins NOXs 12” MLOK rail. Lightweight and very small in diameter.

Student gave me the dust cover and asked for it to be installed, so I did.

Good looking setup; just out of curiosity, since you are more hands-on than most, what's your thought on the Anti-rotation / anti-walk pins?

I’ve never seen an actual need for them on a semi-auto, but they don’t hurt anything.

Copy that, I put a set of KNS pins on a Spike's Lower, but the set I used were a bit thicker ... had they not been given to me free, I'm not sure I'd go out and buy a set as I have yet to see anyone say "Good thing I had those Anti-rotation pins or else ...." etc, etc

Can you actually see through optic without flashlight getting in the way?

i have a set of the kns pins but only because my cmc cassette style trigger requires them. i believe they were included.

otherwise i’ve never really had a need. i have heard though that they can help with old full auto lowers with high round counts. sometimes the trigger and hammer pin holes get wallowed out with use and then these are a must.

Yes. I don’t really consider it looking through the optic, not like you would a magnified scope. Both eyes open, the housing for the RDS becomes translucent, as does the flashlight. Even if it weren’t, it is in the lower portion of the optic.

I would think keeping the bottom of the rail empty allows for ease of propped shooting and less snagging to worry about.

I like having the light between 11 - 1 o’clock because it works best with a wider assortment of cover; strong side, support side, over the top.

That's what I was about to say. My CMC requires them, but that's just the nature of the self contained drop in trigger.
