I know there have been brief discussions in the past on this subject, but I'm having a hard time deciding on what model to go with and have questions regarding use with different parts.

Looking to use it for can baffles and gun internals.

Will the basic Harbor freight 1 pint capacity version do the deed, or do I need the heating element and more capacity? Is heating necessary or just result in a faster clean?

Any preferred or avoided cleaning solutions? Will simple green do the job or do I need something more specialized?

Are there any internal parts that should not be cleaned via a sonic cleaner?

Thanks!

We use one at work. Primarily for the Machine guns. I do know that you need to watch your time in the bath......Extended periods of time on some firearms especially anything aluminum can cause permanent discoloration. I do know my GS uses a solution designed for this type of machine. Sorry at this time I don't remember the name. we purchase it on Brownells.

There's one on sale at harbor freight for $30 right now. It's large enough for a stripped down Glock 19.

Might be the one I saw yesterday; is it heated?

Not even sure I need the heating portion, hence my post....

silver model at harbor freight. yes you want heat.

solution 50/50 water and purple degreaser.

I use it for non-leaded baffles and my guns

I run an AR lower upside down and the FCG comes out squeaky clean without removing parts. I also put my 1911 and glock frames in it upside down and it cleans the hell out of all the powder in the small parts.

We use a basic model, not sure which(can let you know) with simple green. Work amazing at pulling all the caked up carbon crud off rental handguns.

for silencer baffles though..... use a tumbler and stainless steel pin media, so much better.
Can't justify the cost right now unless I can get both a very cheap sonic cleaner and a very cheap tumbler.

i use the harbor freight single drum tumbler. Shit was cheap as hell with the usual coupons that come in the mail. The media is cheap and last for freaking ever. then its just water and dish soap.

if your cleaning a rimfire can, ultrasonic is just tedious as hell and never seems to really clean it all off. Steel pin does the trick without resorting to dip.
Cleaning an Octane 45 (internals), but I am sometimes running unjacketed .22 through it

Not to derail the thread, but I just noticed on Harbor Freight's website that they are "opening a new store every 3 days". Do we really like some cheap Chinese tools so much that when it breaks we just go right back and buy another one? Man, it makes me feel like one of those lab rats on cocaine and the Chinese are the scientist taking notes.

I think I'm going to go with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_5&smid=AWW17F3I8GBX9

I'm still debating on a tumbler, PewPew mentioned a tumbler with stainless steel pins, I've found the SS media in different amounts (not sure how much I need), but also wondering if the basic Frankford arsenal "quick-n-ez" tumbler will do the job, or do I need higher end?
When you get it, can you see if you can fit a gov't 1911 in it? Or any full size pistol.
