So I called up my buddy Cole at Spike's Tactical and ordered "The Jack" lower. Although I've owned many AR's, this will be my first build. Debating on staying with the 5.56 caliber or jump into the 300 black out.

Wow...that's pretty elaborate...

300 BO is just too expensive for me to justify owning...

Aside from cheap mags, what do you gain with 300BO over 7.62x39?

I think alot of it comes to reliability. I have not heard many if any good things about a 7.62x39 AR. only non AK/SKS in x39 I would buy is that Sig or a bolt gun.

and the curved mags look stupid.

I never had any issues with my SOTA X39 upper on a DPMS lower; used ASC mags and the upgraded firing pin. Never one FTF/FTE, all using the crappies steel case ammo.

Yes, ASC mags are a little more expensive (and do look odd), but not too bad. I'm actually thinking about doing another X39 AR, but may try PSA this time since they are running a special.

I just need to build my first AR before I ever play around with other calibers. But to me Glocks are 9mm, 1911s are .45, ARs are 5.56, and AKs are x39.

I hear ya, I was the same way for a while; but if you like the AR platform but don't like paying $7.00 for 20 rounds of .223/5.56, the X39 upper on the AR makes shooting the AR much more economical.

Granted, the same could be said for a .22 conversion in an AR, but if you prefer feeling manly, the x39 takes care of that as well ;)

You could...

I would love to but dont have the tools or know how to do it, and I dont have enough disposable cash to build something that doesnt work. I would love to build one if i knew someone who had the tools and know how to build an AK that would run 100%
