I've been out of .308 since I traded off my LR308 and FCP-K a few years ago, I was recently tempted to get back into it again with this:

I see that the C308 goes for a couple of hundred less, but read (from the interwebz) that the PTR is the way to go.

Yay / Nay?

Yes, but make sure you get one that has a rail system so you can mount a optic. I hate the sights on those rifles. Other than that, its a bad ass rifle IMO.
I'm over the 5.56 rifles for now. All I want to play with is .308 at the moment.

Yeah, definately want a mount, which brings me to my next quandary, gotta figure out what glass will go best with it!

I'd probably do the viper 2.5-10, but the 4-16 ain't a bad choice either, I just prefer a little lower low end magnification.

I just picked up a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 scope for one of my .308 rifles, looking at putting a Vortex Strike Eagle on my DOUBLESTAR AR-15 . It's hard to beat the Vortex optics for the money.

Can we get this thrown in the poverty thread?
Some of us have to actually work for our money ... ;)

I was contemplating a 3x9 since this will just be a plinker, but I would like the ability to reach out further if given the chance. I had a Millet LRS a few years back, but it was just too damn big ... and it started sucking beyond 14X

By the way, how's the eye relief on that diamondback, is it as advertised?

Bruh 3-9 will reach out plenty far. Get that diamondback and save a few pennies for some training with @cmshoot
I'm leaning that way, I don't want it to become as heavy as my LR308 was; with a 24" barrel and PRS stock, that damn LR could only be shot prone

i had one of these previously and i have a couple of observations.

you want the new one with the paddle mag release like the real HK91. the mag release buttton is difficult to actuate.

you also want the one with the picatinny rail welded on top or you'll want to add in the cost of a good claw mount.

also, these things are beefy. mine was an 18" barrel and i didn't feel like carrying it around for any period of time. would definitely have preferred a 16".

Good info, I'll definitely look into that
