SR 4756 Powder

Newbie from western Colorado would like any feedback on SR 4756 powder behind a 125 gr. cast bullet. Trying to find a good load for my LCR 38 spl.

Never use that powder in a pistol. If I remember right I used that in a 12 gauge 1 half ounce load.

The powder manufacturer (IMR) recommends SR 4756 for shotgun loads and "big" handgun cartridges. I would not classify the .38 Special as a "big" cartridge.

It is on the Hodgen site and I have never used it--just wondering as nothing beats first hand experience

My powder choice for .38 Special with lead bullets is typically Unique.

The new Hodgun 2013 annual manual is at the news stands! It shows the 4756 data for all the bullet weights and even the +p 38 special.

4756 has been in several reloading data manuals for decades. However, in my old Lyman manual it was very clear that Unique outperformed the 4756 for the .38 Special lead bullet loads. Unique was what they were reporting as the most accurate of the tested loads and the velocities were all better than those achieved with 4756.

I have used it with 9mm and it shoots very well, I like it. (LC9 and SR9c) It is listed in many of the pistol data books including Lyman. Do not know about 38.
