Well I've only put 50 through the 45 but I'm investing in a holster & mag carrier for it.Which do you prefer?

she let her GWL lapse and can't seem to find the time to go renew it (many an argument has ensued)....
I agree with the sentiment but I also don't ever want to have to try and explain that to a judge.Honestly if I didn't buy so many guns in gun shops I would let mine lapse and never renew. Yes, I would still carry anyway.
I only have a GWL to make purchases quicker and easier, I don't believe I need permission to defend myself.
Has there ever been an instance where someone was unable to defend themselves or their family effectively because he only had 16 or 17 rounds of 9mm instead of 8 rounds of the much more "effective" .45?
I'm not researching it, because I don't give a shit. Even though I love me some 1911, I carry 9mm and 18 rounds makes me feel better than 8 rounds of .45.
I think I recall reading that it's usually no more than 2-4 shots fired in the average SD situation; I will also say that I don't lend much weight to averages, but just throwing it out there. With that said, I still carry an extra mag for my 1911Has there ever been an instance where someone was unable to defend themselves or their family effectively because he only had 16 or 17 rounds of 9mm instead of 8 rounds of the much more "effective" .45?

So maybe that extra heavy 10mm needs a new home, perhaps a home with somebody that will carry her daily? Now that it's cooler (and I've lost weight) I'm back to packing my compact RIA 1911.
Hello, old friend!
I get it, and I agree. I just feel that I personally would benefit more from having additional opportunities to put one where it counts than I would to rely on my own accurate precision shooting in a situation where the adrenaline is pumping and I may or may not have shit my pants.I think I recall reading that it's usually no more than 2-4 shots fired in the average SD situation; I will also say that I don't lend much weight to averages, but just throwing it out there. I didn't assume you were referring to a 1911, I know what you carry. I carried a 1911 for a while. It's my favorite gun to shoot & it's the one I shoot the best. If I were to grab .45 to carry tomorrow, it would be a 1911, only because 1911 is the only .45 I currently own..45 ACP ≠ 1911 It's amazing how when .45 is mentioned EVERYONE assumes it's in a 1911
13 rounds of .45 in my USP45
Hence the reason why I choose .45; for whatever reason (maybe it's the push rather than the snap) I shoot .45 much more accurately in repetitious shooting than 9mm.I get it, and I agree. I thought I was the only person that thought 9mm recoils more/worse than .45. 9 has always felt overly snappy to me and it's especially bad with the seeming best version, 124 gr +P.Hence the reason why I choose .45; for whatever reason (maybe it's the push rather than the snap) I shoot .45 much more accurately in repetitious shooting than 9mm.
They feel about the same to me, but it also depends largely on the gun. That's one of the reasons I like the 1911 so much. It's heavy and absorbs so much of the recoil, yet it's so balanced it just feels smooth. Also my follow up shots just fall right back on target with very little effort. That said, I'm not a big guy, and that's a big gun. It's fairly uncomfortable for me to carry. I know it's there, all day long. With my P30, I can forget that I'm wearing it. Considering that I have to work and go about my daily activities whether I'm armed or not, that is a factor to consider. I know that it may not matter to a lot of you guys since you are so used to carrying around all that extra weight all the time anyway...I thought I was the only person that thought 9mm recoils more/worse than .45. 9 has always felt overly snappy to me and it's especially bad with the seeming best version, 124 gr +P.

I can't believe how comfortable the VP is. I'm considering grinding the rail off though. The only time I've "forgotten" I was carrying something was when I used to carry a Dan Wesson Guardian in .45. I loved that thing...so smooth, light, and accurate. It was an excellent carry piece.....then I got it in my head that 9 rounds wasn't enough and that I couldn't trust a 1911 to ALWAYS work. I sometimes think I should carry one again...
The VP9 is MUCH more comfortable than the USP45...but I'm still aware that it is there all day.

I've never shot 9mm well, maybe I have weak wrists or maybe I'm just over-thinking it, but after G17s, G19s, & 2 different Berettas, I honestly felt more comfortable & accurate with the .45 offeringsI thought I was the only person that thought 9mm recoils more/worse than .45. 9 has always felt overly snappy to me and it's especially bad with the seeming best version, 124 gr +P.
Also don't forget that the 1911 trigger, even in it's worst form, is drastically better than even the most souped-up Glock triggerThey feel about the same to me, but it also depends largely on the gun. The holster definitely has something to do with it. I filled a drawer with various holsters before I started buying Crossbreeds almost exclusively. You are also right about the gun. I have carried guns smaller than the P30 that don't wear nearly as comfortable. It might be the holster....but I don't think so. It could just be that I've gotten fatter.
