So I joined a number of deputies on a raid of a home of a known drug dealer. I got cool video I'll share when the case is resolved but until then I'll share my thoughts.
1. SBR's are important. Officers with 16" guns were having difficulty jumping from their cars and difficulty cuffing suspects throwing around all that length and weight. Officers with 10.5" barrels were able to more easily cuff suspects, Keep their guns held upright more often, and they had no issue jumping from the vehicle.
2. Weapon lights are super important. None of the lights were on in the drug house, without the weapon lights it would have been insanely dangerous as the house had covered windows and crap piled up everywhere as a trip hazard and occluding view
3. Raids are chaotic. Suddenly numerous officers are yelling commands and yelling to their other officers all at once all while trying to deal with suspects who may be yelling as well. Crazy dangerous situation.
4. The house had a few dogs, one ran towards a few officers and a few grabbed their pepper spray, but I could tell it wasn't mad so I sort of put myself between the officers and the dog and then I had a friend for the rest of the search. Good dogs, bad people, wish I could have taken him home
