Just found the original AK thread on AR15.COM. There's a bit more information there. They discuss lots of different parts breakage. It's really not that different than the AR's except for the receiver failures. Bolts, pistons carriers and even barrels have cracked or broken.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I don't think they're tracking the various parts that closely. The only thing he stated emphatically was that most AK receivers break between 80-100k rounds. I think the exception was a few milled receivers?

Yes the milled receiver lasted longer....but I don't think 80-100k rounds out of a stamped piece of steel is really anything to be worried about. Neither is 12-20k rounds out of an AR bolt.

Bottom line from his reports is that given similar patterns of use the AKs typically went much longer than an AR did without catastrophic failure or major parts replacements. Both went longer than any of us are likely to ever need...

mini 14, just kidding, not trolling. Honestly, when you look at the ammunition cost vs. cost of the firearm to get 20k down the barrel, it is no big deal to trash the rifle at 20k and start over.

I've seen a couple offered in the "unfriendly touching" price range. Not an all-out financial rape but still more than I am comfortably willing to pay.

SAA had some colt police turn-in uppers that I posted as a deal a month or two ago. "A grade" - unissued or no wear for $550 with BCG and CH...and they had the A2 fixed sights. The "D grade" or "village bicycle" uppers were $350 if I recall.

Still kicking myself that I didn't jump on this deal when I saw it. They went quick.

I don't even have a gun that my 5.56 can would work on at the moment.

Doubtful. I still don't have a 9mm pistol host since I traded you my Glock 19. My focus is elsewhere and I still have WAY more than I need.
