Ok, I talk myself out of wanting one of these all the time, but I was at CG&P and saw theirs. I started wanting one again.

Who has one on here? Have you suppressed it? I see tons of YouTube videos of these "easily" hitting silhouettes at 800+ yards. Do you guys have the same success at longish distances?

Just trying to talk myself out of one again. They are just too expensive for what you get IMHO. I would have bought one if they were $2,000-$2,200, but $2,800+ I always tell myself I can get a Savage 110BA in 338 LM AND a nice optic for what just the SCAR costs...

Just sold one a few weeks ago.
It's nice and definitely more precise than your average AR, but 800m targets can be repeatedly hit with a $800 Vepr 54r for 1/3 the cost. And coincidently your great grandchildren will be able to do the same with that same Vepr after 50 years and 50k rounds. The Scar? Sure, if it's used sparingly and stored for most of that 50 years and has under 5k rounds.

Did you have reliability issues out of yours or are you referring to the fact its made of ALOT of plastic?

One I had earlier year had some ammo related issues in about 2k rds, but I guess than can be expected due to tighter tolerances than your average AR.
I didn't shoot this last one enough to find any reliability issues (only about 300rds)Then again I don't use crap ammo either.
They are nice. I wouldn't trust one for very long though. I'd trust a PTR91 over a Scar if I had to have a .308 long term. But neither interest me.
I expect close to 100% reliability and decent longevity out of a $3k rifle.
Go with the Savage and the optic. I'd suggest keeping your semiauto repeated accuracy expectations under 400m, and your 800m+ range shots for bolt actions.

As far as 400m, that rather short for 30 caliber rounds, but I get what your saying. To the Savage, .338 is immensely expensive compared to 308. I just get stuck in this debate with myself all the time.

As far as 400m, that rather short for 30 caliber rounds, but I get what your saying. To the Savage, .338 is immensely expensive compared to 308. I just get stuck in this debate with myself all the time.

I try to NOT set rules which may prevent other options (such as caliber or platform)
By round count, I shoot my semiautos vs bolt guns about 40 to 1 ratio. So my reasoning is that since 40rds of surplus 54r ammo still cost more than 2rds of Weatherby .300 or 1rd of 30-378, technically, I don't worry about the cost. Out of those 40rds of 54r I could still hit the same target at least 10 times at 800m

If you're looking for a new toy and interested in shooting long range targets then you should get a good bolt gun if you don't have one already.

heavy, controls are all in the wrong place, mag changes are difficult, the barrel starts at the end of the receiver so it's longer than competing designs, I could go on and on.

the scar is nice but I still think they're priced about $500 more than they should be.

Thank you Sir! I did some additions to her, I am very pleased with the performance of mine. I like the external gas valve for suppression. My AAC 762-SDN-6 Tames the beast.

If you're looking for a new toy and interested in shooting long range targets then you should get a good bolt gun if you don't have one already.

The issue is, many factory bolt guns I expect to hit well long range. I think it would be more fun with a semi-auto.

what about a nice AR10?

I have the beginnings of one, but haven't gotten around to finishing it. I would rather have the SCAR over an AR10 though, just because how plain the AR10 can be. I mean, you can build a sweet AR10, but will have well over $2,000 in just the rifle in no time (at least looking at the parts I want to use). For $2K+ and a choice, I think I would take the SCAR first.

NIce! Is yours and FDE or black one? Ya know, the color makes an accuracy difference. Just like sea foam green Yeti's keep ice cooler. I read all of this on the internet by the way .
