I am getting ready to Form 1 my first lower. What is a good caliber to get an upper in for an SBR? I have a 30 cal can so I will want to suppress it also.

Probably not what your looking for but my dream SBR would be one of the glock mag lowers.
A 9mm glock mag fed SBR would make me so happy. I know you can't swap out uppers doing that but I still think it would be badass.

You can swap out the uppers, as long as you aren't putting a pistol length upper on a non SBR "rifle" lower.
That explains why they say you could shoot 300 BLK out of a 9 can and why I havent heard vice versa

I have a 7.62x39 in 16", but decided to do the SBR build in 300aac because of the lack of subsonic ammo for the x39.
I also have a 9mm 5.5" that is a blast to shoot suppressed and at $.20 a round.

I have a 7.62x39 SBR. It started at 7.5" but I wasn't comfortable with the short barrel and my can so I changed it up to a 10.5" barrel. It does everything my 300 BLK SBR did since I never used subsonic ammo in my 300 BLK. What are your questions?
