Sanding down G10?

Anybody ever sanded G10 before? If so, what grit sandpaper did you use and how did you go about doing it? I have a set of VZ Tactical Diamond G10 grips on my CZ SP-01 and I love the grips but hate how rough it is against my skin when carrying it. I want to take some sandpaper to it and smooth it out a little bit but I don't want them to look all scratched up and shitty after I do it. Would I be better off just buying a new set of grips and trying to sell the old ones? I really don't want to destroy a $75 pair of grips.

Start much higher than you think might work. It doesnt take much to knock the points off and make the grips less sharp.

I would start around 400-600 grit wet sanding with light pressure.
Avoid the dust too. It sucks to breathe

I was thinking somewhere around 600 grit to start. That's all I really want to do is just smooth out the points on the checkering. That shit is rough as hell and my holster has a claw that holds the gun tight against my body that doesn't help either...

For what you want to accomplish, using 600 grit to take the sharp peaks off the texture shouldn't take more than 15 seconds, maybe two swipes at it. You shouldn't cause any damage by doing so, but a heat gun set on low will smooth out any rough spots you create.

Really, a heat gun? I've never heard of that on G10 before. Admittedly I haven't really researched it all that much, that's what I have you guys for.

It should work on G10, certainly not on micarta. Hitting it a second round with 2000 grit or similar would also work.

Hobby Lobby sells packs of sandpaper with incremental grits from 300 to 6000 in 3" sheets for $9. Much cheaper than buying a bunch of individual packs in various grits.

For a more custom look, heat up the grip panels with a bic lighter and use a gloved hand to shape them.

Those grips are pretty mild compared to most CZ g10 grips. Use a smooth sand paper and it will be fine.
