What a terrible idea, especially considering the long and ambiguous choice. In a marketing era where companies are shortening their names and creating a more concise image, Smith is going backward.
"Whatcha shooting there partner?" "Oh, just my new American Outdoors Brand Corporation Model 629"
So I guess "The Former Firearms Company Known as Smith and Wesson That Now Sells Flashlights and Backpacks" was already taken.
Sounds like the firearms name will stay the same. Just changing the name of the non-firearms related stuff.

I will say this... My all steel S&W flashlight is way better than my surefire flashlights, the surefire lights "drain the battery" even in the off position.
