Damn, still have my 6.5 on order. I don't see $200 over the regular model since I would take the brake off anyways and the bolt shrouds are only $60

Meh, I had to look them up. Not really seeing something I want there. A lot of their options are of the hunting/safari type.
AO for $940. I also got a factory 308 take off barrel for $150 or 160(can't remember which??) too!
The 6.5 has about a 6 month back order unless your ok paying $1,500 for one on Gunbroker. I figured I can wait a little for that cost difference. That savings would be enough to get another can or go towards optic.
The 243's are fairly easy to find and the 308's were said to only have a few month lead (I have seen some in stock though at stores ) @TruPrep had one a few weeks ago in 308.
How much was the .308?
Also.... I've never shot a 6.5 and don't really know what the advantage is of one... anyone?
Is 11 lbs heavy for a precision long range gun? I was thinking it seems a little heavy and that's prior to any bipods, or optic being added.
Really? hmmm... yeah I'm definitely no expert. I was seriously looking at the Savage 110 or that Rem 700 AAC that's on here, because theyre lighter and been around a while. So heavier is better.... I will start looking into that.
You can order the 308 from AO for $940 as well. The one at truprep was around $1,100 I believe.
6.5 has better ballistics than 308. It's less susceptible to wind drift and better for 600-1000 yard stuff than 308. Downside is that although Hornady backs the 6.5CM, it's still not stocked in abundance at most stores. Brass is expensive and can only be reloaded around 10 times. 50-60k psi loads. I had to go to 4 stores to get what I needed to release 6.5 as well. Lastly, finding the match ammo can be a bitch. I have only found 1 place to have the Hornady (Not Winchester) Match in stock (Hi-Caliber in Canton)
Also, the recoil is less in a 6.5 than 308.
I prefer heavy as well for a bench rifle. They move around less and help absorb some recoil. For the money, the RPR cannot be topped IMHO at the moment. That 700 AAC is nice and I almost bought one, but would have $2,500 in it before it would come close to the stock RPR for $940.
Only knock is Ruger said they have no intentions of supplying barrels for them (if you want to swap calibers). I was told by Ruger to go aftermarket. Going that route starts at the $350-$550 currently for a match HB replacement.
Plus, you can work on a RPR mostly with standard AR armorers tools.
