They aren't really shitty at all...I've had several and never had an issue with any of them. Eventually the MIM buts will likely break but that's with any MIM in a 1911.

I was just wondering if I could save a few bucks and get a functional 1911 in 9mm for sub $500 instead of paying $800 for the Springfield.
It doesn't have to be perfect, it's just going to be a range toy.

I've had mixed experiences with them. Whatever you do just make sure you buy one that you can inspect first.

Issues with finish then?

No, the finish on all of them suck...I bought one(for super cheap)that had an out of spec feed ramp...like way out of spec. I sold it to a buddy who took it to a Gunsmith and it had to be milled out to function. I've shot a few that were good to go but I'm just cautious of them now. I'd never own another though. I guess you could say I'm a 1911 snob. They don't offer any of the features that I seek in a 1911.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'll become one quickly. I'm just not ready to drop $4k on a Nighthawk.

Drop $1,500 on a Dan wesson then. I've owned everything from RIA to Kimber to Guncrafter Industries to Wilson Combat. I'll never buy anything more expensive than a Dan Wesson again.

@ArtVandelay can attest to this. He saw my $4,000 Guncrafter Industries 1911. Sure it may have had a few more features like a flush cut and target crowned barrel, a recessed slide stop etc, but it wasn't $2,500 better fit wise than his $1,500 Dan Wesson Specialist.

There is a big difference though between a $500 RIA and a $700 Springfield.

I am a die hard Springfield fan but I am pretty sure if you have issues with a RIA they will correct it if you get it back to them. I still say get the Springfield it holds value better. IMO

Yeah, I'm not the type of person that wants to deal with shipping defective stuff back and forth. I just want something that'll work. I'd be more inclined to toss into the back of the safe and buy something better if it has problems.

Why not a SR1911 as maybe another option. We sell the crud out of them and I've never had anyone have an issue with them. Shot plenty of them and excellent F&F for a $600 gun.

I would go for the RIA, I have had 3 and never a single problem out of any of them and I never lost my ass on trading them.

I've had a dozen or so of them over the years. Besides a VERY early GI 9mm 5" gun that just wouldn't run, I have never had a problem with one.

That said, I would just get that Para I have listed. :boink:

A RIA Tactical was my first 1911. I loved it, but I loathe matte/parkerized finishes and sold it because of this. That being said, I never knew how well I could should a handgun until I had that 1911. Trigger was great (I'm not a trigger snob by any means so YMMV). It never hiccuped, and performed well. My cousin picked up the plain jane combat RIA NIB for $299 a few weeks ago from Buds.

Personally my next 1911 will be an American Classic, also made in Phillippines but much prettier. They come in about as many variations you can think of including one that is between a Commander and Officer model (they call it Compact Commander).

Seems Laufen wants a 1911 in 9mm. Not sure Ruger offers the SR1911's in anything but 45 from the factory.
