I can’t speak for price. I’ve only shot a glock 20 and a 10mm 1911. I would take the 1911 hands down. The extra weight helped tame it and the SA trigger was easier to shoot accurately

I would think you want a 1911 like Colt Delta or RIA Ultra if not a Glock 40 for the price range you're looking.

If you can find a 1911, do it. If not a glock 40 would be a good choice

Do they still have frame cracking issues though?

Not sure, I’ve never heard of that. A buddy of mine has an EAA Witness 10mm that he’s had for at least 12 years. He’s never had an issue with his. I realize that ain’t a cross section of ownership, though.

To hunt I'd go glock 20 with an extended KKM barrel and nice target sights. There is your $800 limit, durability, and accuracy requirements...

I agree with this for the price range you're at. Can't beat a 1911 trigger, and Ruger makes a pretty decent 1911 for the money.
I third the SR1911 recommendation. Haven’t shot one in 10mm, but for the price I consider the SR to be better than pretty decent.
