Quick PPU ammo test

I picked up a box of Privi Partisan PPU 180gr JHP at Walmart for a decent price earlier this week. I had heard that it was infamous for not expanding but it was on sale for $15 so I thought I'd give it a test.

I shot 5 rounds into milk jugs filled with water and cornstarch. All five rounds fed and fired. None of them fully expanded and all shed their jacket. The round below is representative of the rest.

Conversely, I shot some Winchester White Box at the same medium and all rounds expanded nicely while maintaining their structure.

180 is odd weight for a quuck round. Is that a .45 ACP?

I don't get why WWB has a bad rep...I have never had issue with it.

The PPU stuff, JHP or not, is range ammo IMO.

Yeah I have always had good luck with WWB, I wouldnt carry it as my primary ammo but I have a couple boxes of the WWB hollow points tucked away as SHTF ammo. I think its a good balance between price and usefullness compared to premium hollow points and ball ammo.

I wouldn't hesitate to carry the WWB. It shoots accurately and all rounds I fired expanded reliably.

That is good to hear. I had never really done any expansion testing with it. But i trust your judgment and im going to probably go pick up a little more.

Yes it was steel plate...yes it's .45...If I recall it was just some crappy Blazer 230gr...might have been JHP. It was a while ago...Souls were definitely killed.
