I don't know if they still offer them, but the FN SLP (semi-auto) and their pump action both used to be available with AR-style sights that were quite high. You could get a co-witness with those and the right RDS. The pump action is basically an updated Win1300, so good gun. The SLP is an excellent gun as well.

With the right machinist/gunsmith/good with his hands fella, it wouldn't be too hard to do a similar setup on just about any scattergun. A Picatinny rail on the received for the RDS and BUIS from an AR, then a front sight soldered/clamped to the barrel.

I want to play with it, but the front sight on the 590 with ghost ring sights is pretty high. Probably wouldn't work with an eotech or aimpoint but something like a Burris fastfire or similar may sit low enough to at least see the top enough to "aim"

Found it! It was called the FN TPS (Tactical Police Shotgun). I didn't care for the collapsible stock or the PG, but liked everything else.

I currently have an 870 with Magpul furniture. Previously I've had 2 1300 defenders. I like them both equally but the aftermarket support for the 870 makes it a no brainer

870.
I've always owned Winchesters, but New Haven Winchester parts are few and far between these days.
Barrels go for 130+ used, not a fan of the aluminum receiver as well. They are smooth and pretty though.

Mossbergs are shit IMO. I've owned a 500, 535, and 835. The 500 did well, 835 extractor crapped out within months, 535 couldn't load the very first shell I ever put in the mag...brand new gun. I was done at that point. Returned it and never looked back.

The 870 is a workhorse, solid steel, and parts are easily available. Not to mention, they just look good.

God those Magpul furniture sets are hideous.
I don't think they are bad but they are not great looking either. But, functionality wise I really like them.

Ease of mounting accessories, I really like the grip angle, and the adjustable comb height is nice.

Most pump shotgun stocks are too long for non-hunting use. I think it's one of the things that contributes to "short stroking".

as an update, i bought a used winchester 1300 in 20 gauge for what i consider to be a good price.

i decided on the 20 vs a 12 because it should be manageable for my wife too if she so chooses. i also don't think there's that much of a difference from close-in work with 12 gauge vs 20 gauge slugs (both are pretty lethal imo) and it makes for a lighter shooting option. plus, i think i'm covered with a 12 ga benelli m1 and a citori.

the 1300 action is smooth and i appreciate the progression of the lineage from the model 12 - a legendary weapon in its time (maybe even today as well).

i'll try to keep you guys updated as i put this one through some of its paces.

Well if you want another, I have a 1300 20ga less action bars and a stock I'll let go for cheap!!
