That's something I've never understood. Gas has got to be put in at sometime, why not do as you said, put it in between half and quarter full.

I have a 36 gal tank and top it off when, it gets down one quarter..Two reasons, I cry less due to cost and most important, less chance of condensation forming in the tank.

I hear ICBM rocket engines in the background when I get to half a tank. The only way to shut them up is to refill the gas tank. I try to keep at least 150 miles of range in the truck all the time.
