Lots more on the web about these guns than I could ever type. Love the technology and history behind it.
Kinda crazy how the Americans were basically the only Army during WWII that had a semi-auto as a main battle weapon. The Russians toyed with the 40 but kept with the Mosins...plus the artillery was making the most casualties, the ground troops were more for mopping up.
