I always thought that 12 ga./30.06 over-under was the perfect gun to stash in a vehicle when going way off-road. that & a .22lr & you're able to handle any survival/hunting scenario you might encounter in North America.
till Mr Grizzly then its your ASS

I'll take a chance against a grizzly with a 30.06. Westerners in the 1800s killed them with black powder weapons. Nowhere near the power or penetration of a modern 30.06 hunting round. As a matter of fact, the one real world encounter I had with a grizzly in Montana in the early 80s I was armed with a 30.06. Fortunately, he decided to just look at us for a while & then leave. But nobody felt undergunned back then with an 06. Kinda like when I was growing up. 30-30 was the go to deer cartridge. It wasn't until the 90s that i started hearing people claim the need for .300 winmag to deer hunt.

how hard are fig plants (trees?) to keep? And what do you do with them?
The easiest fruit tree to grow. Very resistant to deseases. Birds and deer picking fruit will be your biggest issue. It loves lime.
Go with a Brown Turkey. Most cold resistant variety.
Eat them fresh, make jams, dry. Price fig jam in a store and you will see why I have trees. Or fresh figs ($1 a piece)
Figs are very good for cardio-vascular health. One of the main fruits of the Bible for a reason.
