To keep track of inventory. In Soviet Army officers were personally financially responsible for the inventory under their command. They did inventory counts when they assumed the command of a unit and when they left. If radios, mags, bayonets were missing, cost was taken out of their paychecks. It sucked.

I was just kidding. I grew up fishing for smallmouth in a clear cold creek in the eastern Oklahoma Ozarks.

For eatin', you just can't beat bluecat though, IMHO.

Damn! That sucks. I'm assuming they weren't charging their officers $100 for slabsides though. They might have been able to make some money. Pay the Russians $10 for a slabside and sell it to stupid Americans for $100.

Sounds like channel cat. Those get kept when the freezer's empty, usually they get released. My fishing buddy calls them "brother-in-law" fish.

Well, I’m no expert, so lemme explain...
It’s got a bulged RPK trunnion, 1.5mil rcvr, and a 16.5” barrel, right? With a bayonet lug, and it’s an underfolder.
What am I missing?
