Part 2 of this bullshit.: mother in law is trying to protect her felon ass son and saying it wasn’t stolen. So what do I do. Again, all I did was buy it for a chistmas gift a month ago and it’s been out of my Possesion since.
You're good, and so is your father-in-law probably. There is no law that compels anybody to report stolen property, so if it was indeed stolen and your father-in-law didn't report it he's not in trouble for not reporting. As far as furnishing the gun to his felon son...if he is willing to confess to that to a LEO then he will be arrested. Is your mother-in-law saying he didn't steal it because she gave it to him? If so, you might want to tell her the less she says about that the better off she will be.

Thanks y’all. Just find it to be a lot of bullshit my mother in law was saying it wasn’t stolen. Quite frankly I don’t give a fuck since gifted it as long as it doesn’t come back to me

Dose the felony son live with his father? I'm no lawyer, but not sure if you can possess any firearms if you have a convicted felon that lives with you... And the mother can say anything she wants, but the truth is that both her and her husband would shoulder the responsibility of "allowing" the son to get possession of the firearm. Regardless of who bought it. If the mother is saying it wasn't stolen, then who the fuck gave it to him?
