I polished the hell out of mine with a file, then a stone, then 800grit paper. Started with a mil-spec and it’s smooth after a tiny bit of initial grit. I just couldn’t get down far enough to remove the deepest machine marks. It’s a long pull, but breaks clean.
Try it, it’s not difficult to do.
