I like Formsby's, if you want to go pro-grade, look at some of the stuff Brownell's sells.
First, watch some videos on refinishing stocks - I think the one I had was AGI gunsmithing.
Second - the higher the gloss, the more imperfections will show
Third - make sure you progressively get finer with your sanding (using a block!)
Fourth - when you think you're done, get the raw wood surface damp, then hit it with a hair dryer. You'll see little whiskers come up. Remove those with 00000 steel wool. Your raw surface should now be ready.
Fifth - whatever finish you choose, dilute it about half or more with thinner. Apply evenly, it'll dry quickly. After you get a good layer on, steel wool again, then wipe down gently, use compressed air if you have it. Continue applying layers until you think you're there, then apply one final coat undiluted.

Then post pics here of the final product.
Very good advice. Most of the stuff they sell at Home Depot is garbage that will not give you the finish you want. Think of that stuff as the polyurethane that people put on stair railings, not on a nice gun stock.
And proper prep makes such a huge difference, so follow those steps and you’ll do well. Unless you’re a total fucking idiot, in which case you’ll still do better than you might have...

My dad is gonna be stoked to get his "modernized" AR back. I am the real winner though cause if he likes it I have an A2 stock to start a build off of. Need to find some triangle handguards now

Go to the Army/Navy store on 140. They have several to choose from.
