I think some of the rioting has been overstated, at least in Atlanta. My co-worker who lives right in the middle of all the stuff that happened in Buckhead said it's been pretty quiet for the most part and there wasn't a whole lot of looting. Mostly opportunistic smash and grab in a few locations.
Here in the city it's not obvious what's been going on. I think everything was pretty localized. IMO it helps that both sides of the aisle were actively condemning the violence and were quick to act. I don't think that was the case in other cities.

The legacy of Dr. King is so strong in Atlanta and his spirit of non-violence is still alive today here. When the rioting/looting peeked out from under the covers, the very well respected religious and civic leaders here put there foot down and the very few causing the issues listened for the most part.

There is always a small criminal element looking for an opportunity, civil unrest appeals to them. But the people of the south seem to be more kinder and gentile that some of the NE/West Coast folks. That makes a big difference in times like these.

I agree. I also think we have a overall great LEO force here. I’m proud of our LEO and how they continue to handle these types of situations. Just wish the ATL mayor wasn’t such a flaming liberal. Without LEO we would all be at each other’s throats. It would be complete anarchy. Some people don’t realize that. I’m just glad there are folks out there who wake up everyday and do that job. It’s a tough stressful profession
