Your dad's was a 73, they only imported them in 73 and 74.
The 74 has an old style vw heat ex-changer heating system and the vents on the back.
The 73 used a gas heater system.
It's slow, loud and has some bumps and bruises but we like it.

Thanks for the info!! I’d always wondered why I never saw another like his, must be more 74s have survived, or more were brought in that year.

Laquered Wolf ammo? If yes, there could be laquer build up in the chamber and case was stuck. Has not happened to me, but I have heard of it happening in ARs. It was a reason Wolf switched to Poly coating.

I don't know about the ammo but that's a possibility.
