There’s a way to clean out a cat - I can’t remember right now but I think it’s soaking it in vinegar. I saw it a while back while I was surfing YouTube. Some old guy mechanic who talks about practical repairs. He’s all weird and goofy, but he makes sense. I’ll try find it and post it here.If it really is the catalytic converter take it to a muffler shop and have them put a "high flow" catalytic converter on it. It will be 1/4 of the price of a regular cat. It's basically a hollowed out cat with 1/4 of the material in there. It might make the exhaust a little bit louder but with factory mufflers, resonators and most newer cars have multiple cats it won't be that much louder. I did that with my old car and saved over a grand versus putting a regular cat on it.
