I was supposed to be driving an XJ now. I was buying my friends 01 Classic Sport (I think) with 134k miles on it. He babied it, never offloaded it, and had a nice little light bar with some Hella lights and BFG tires. I was buying it for 1I from him since he got a Tacoma ...5 miles from the Alabama state line where we were meeting it threw a rod. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement....just the night before I was about to order a 4.2L stroker engine for it but held off

I’ve always wanted one. I’ve had 4 runners and Tacoma’s. But the XJ holds a dear place in my heart

Very much so, especially since i KNOW how well he took care of it for at least 50k of the 134k miles.

'00 and '01 had issues with the heads cracking. If I were to get an XJ I'd get a '97-'99 or if I got a smokin' deal on a '00-'01 I'd just budget in a junkyard 4.0 to throw in it eventually. Never heard of any model 4.0 throwing a rod though.
