You know what, I’ve read and heard that the non chrome lined barrels are actually very accurate. A guy has a 20” FN barrel on the trader for $450 with KAC rail and Carry handle. I’ve been tempted by it. Made him and offer but no response yet so I guess it’s a no go.

Lined barrels they make the barrel and rifle it a little but loose, then the chrome is expected to fill in the extra. At the same time, that chrome is also filling in a lot of the tiny micro-grooves that are cut into the rifling or left there when cold hammer forged. Either way, there’s less detail to the rifling. On the plus side, it wears much slower and is much more resistant to rust, but generally less accurate than a button-rifled barrel that hasn’t been chrome lined.

We are discussing the FR-8 having a larger head space over the FR-7 allowing it to shoot both .308 and 7.62x51 ammo with no issue. The FR-7 I believe could only shoot the 7.62x51 NATO round.

My research showed the biggest difference between the FR7 and FR8 was the 7 was built using Mauser 93 parts, while the 8 used Mauser 98 parts. This resulted in a slightly weaker action in the FR-7, and some folks shy away from using standard pressure 7.62x51 in it. Apparently the FR-8 is gtg on .308, which is slightly hotter than 7.62x51. No mention of x39 being properly fired through either rifle.
