Pay is decent/good/great depending on how high up the food chain you can climb. Benefits are outstanding. Again, talking about Federal .Gov jobs.

Metropolitan areas like Dobbins, I'm assuming would get locality pay to help compensate for the higher cost of living? Cost of living in my area is cheap compared to you guys in the Atlanta area.

My comment was really adding on to who said their relatives were retiring at 58 and 50 from state jobs. Maybe more detail on that? Damn near impossible to do that in a "normal" job.

Depends on the state. Alaskan pension, depending on the tier is 80% of the highest paid 5 years. Earlier tiers got 100% medical. Others got to rerire earlier.

Not sure on that one. Our minimum retirement age is 59 1/2 with benefits. Earlier if they offer an "Early Out" with reduced benefits. But that age would still be 55 or so...
