It's was 16 years ago today that I climbed out of the warmth of the van and into the bitter cold South Carolina air.
I took my place on the yellow footprints and snapped to attention as the forming Drill Instructor barked "Welcome to Parris Island"
As the snowflakes started to fall I couldn't help chuckling to myself.
"Guess hell has frozen over" I muttered, eliciting a smile from the man in the Campaign Cover.
It was the last time I would see a drill instructor smile....
