Primary weapons system ratchet castle nut

anyone tried it? seems liek a great way to avoid staking and I have run into a few loose buffer tubes.

I guess if your removing the buffer tube often it may be worth it but I don't see the need since staking isn't hard and I doubt I'll have to remove my buffer tube anytime soon.

I take it off pretty often due to the size of my ultra sonic cleaner

Then that makes sense to go that route. I don't think the price is unreasonable and it sounds like it would be useful for you for sure.

I have had a castle but or two come loose on me. It only takes a couple minutes to stake them.

i stake all of my end plates because if it comes loose you'll have problems.

having said that - i have a couple of these ratcheting sets and they seem to work well.

pws makes quality stuff so i have peace of mind that they won't loosen.

also, i like to change out my setup to a fixed stock every once in a while. this allows me to go back and forth without needing a new end plate every time (the previous stake marks bug me because i'm ocd like that).

also if i decide to throw an a5 system in down the road, it's easy to reuse these parts.

Per the TM, you should stake your end plate/castle nut in two locations, after applying Aeroshell 33ms (TM advises molybdenum disulfide grease, which 33ms is close enough to be used) to the threads of the castle nut and receiver threads, then tightening to 40 +/- 2 INCH/lbs. If you are swapping stock sets alot and not rocking full auto a crap load between swaps, you can get by without staking for the most part IF you don't use 33ms on the threads.

That said, 42 inch pounds is not very much. after lubricating the threads, just tighten until nice and firm, not gorilla tight, then stake. Should have little to no worries, even if on an select fire lower.

Idk about repalcement costs but these also feature a QD end plate.

A BCM end plate alone will run around $16/17

Brownell's standard end plate is $5 and casltenut for about $3

So my math says I'm paying about $7-9 more to be able to have a ratchet system.

Pws=$27.95

BCM end plate plus castlenut = approx $19/20

probably four or five of the standard end plates.

but, maybe only one or two of the nicer end plates with a qd socket (like this one). i'm very happy with my purchase.
