Never mind. Just kidding. I actually own a Gamo Whisper that I bought back in June of 2009. I had a problem with some tree rats that were devastating my back garden. I tried all sorts of non-lethal solutions. These critters were destroying my back garden and eating holes into my storage shed. Rather expense shrubs and repairs.

I hard plenty of lethal weapons on hand but not wishing to upset the neighbors or have to deal with some rookie Lt. on the local SWAT Team responding to a "Man With A Gun" 911 call I elected to resort to less obtrusive means.

It worked like advertised, with a single crank on the pump handle that puppy would fire lesser grained pellets at a speed rivaling some .22 rounds. Throw in a 90 grain hunting pellet and it becomes real lethal. By cranking a scope down way low it was perfect for bagging tree rats. Problem solved.

I looked at the Beeman and shopped around for under $300. the Gamo was a better deal.

The Gamo is a nice rifle and for your needs it fits the bill and can easily be picked up at a one of the Sporting outlets. My first air rifle was a Crosman I bought at Walmart. It really got the bug going. However, if you ever decide to continue the hobby, it would be wise to at least try out one of the Beemans. ONLY BEEMAN R SERIES. These rifles have superior craftsmanship and and the triggers are exceptional. They are designed to last a life time. The Spring has less vibration and twang and better seals.

One of the most popular is the Beeman R7. Beeman R series are all actually Weilrauchs imported years ago by DR. Beaman a legend in the air gun world. The R7 is a light weight rifle that will be a great trainer for younger shooters and a gun that they can grow into as a adult.

Want a Super tuned R7. I had this guy tune mine with a special kit that increased velocity, smoothed the gun out to the point of ridiculous and took a already quiet rifle into and practically made it silent. Yes, you would pay more this rifle, but well worth the cost for a lifetime rifle.

Probably the most popular starting rifle among the Airgun guys, (my first move up", and another German made quality is the RWS Diana MDL 34. If you have a little bit of skill, you can get a vortek Kit and install it yourself.

Glad to hear your comments Slowhand. Good luck with the tree rats. They are serious destructive pest. If you get a chance, nail a few Starlings. They are killing the American Song birds. Right now, I am on the hunt at night for a very elusive RAT that hits my Bird feeders at night. He is a wise old guy, and alert, but I will get him soon.

I generally agree with most if his reviews. He can be a little corny but who isn't I suppose. He's pretty long winded though. He'll never pass up a chance to take 10 minutes to give you 5 minutes of info. He seems to really try to be objective in his reviews which is often rare on the web. And he's not a brand snob. I've bought a couple of things on his recommendation and have not been disappointed.

Dave....I have an old Crosman model 1400 that shoots .22 cal pellets....
I bought it at a Western Auto Store in 1971....And it still shoots good...
But not quite as powerful as it once was....

I will post a pick of it as soon as I get my camera going again..... ;D

If you get the reseal kit, be sure and get some "Pellgun Oil" for the seals. You might want to just try the oil only as it will revitalize the dry seals. It does wonders.

Dave .....Thanks for the links....I will give it a try.....

My Crosman model 1400 .22 Cal does not have the bolt like a rifle but a sliding metal window...
I don't know if it was an earlier model or later model but I got it late in 1971 at a Western Auto Store...

This gun would shoot through 3/8 inch of plywood when it was brand new....
8 to 10 pumps would put it to full power..
35+ years ago I downed a groundhog and a few squirrels with it......

Since we have been talking about air guns I went looking for it and found it in the Attic.....
