This is my grandfather's Smith and Wesson 45 Long Colt. . He carried it as a police officer and Chief of Police of Avondale Estates in the late 1960's. One night he responded to a call and found a man breaking in to a jewelry store. He ordered the man to the ground and the bad guy turned and shot him in the hand. He shot and killed the burglar with this gun. My grandfather ended up losing a finger as a result.

This gun currently resides in my dad's safe.

Nice. If he carried it often, it looks like he cared about her.
It has been refinished since he carried it. There are some nicks, pits and gouges that are nickel plated right over :)
