So im taking my deer rifle to dobbs tomorrow to cash in on the free threading I wont on the ODT. Hopefully I will be able to eventually get a can one day. But in the meantime what is a inexpensive (not necessarily cheap) flash hider or brake that is worth it. Im mostly just wanting something to help protect the crown of the barrel and to utilize the threads..

I just know nothing about muzzle devices as far as what will fit on the rifle, its a savage Axis.

If you get a muzzle break on a .308 it will be too loud to shoot even hunting without hearing protection.

Be prepared for the joy of shooting and the annoying of your shooting neighbors. I use foam ear plugs underneath muff style hearing protection.

Brakes make shooting big bore rifles a pleasure.

I prefer baffle style brakes but there are others that are very effective.

What thread pitch is he going to use? What caliber?

Get a crush washer and brake from Amazon and just check to make sure it's tight before every range session.

I use a cheap brake for an AK on my 7.62x54R VEPR and it is a pleasure to shoot!

Was like 30 bucks.

Ill probably lean more toward a flash hider then a brake. I dont know what pitch he is going to do, probably whatever is most common. Its a .308 rifle.

A flash hider will be the way to go if you want a little more protection for your crown on a hunting rifle. While you're at Dobbs talk to him about one of his .30 cal cans. Direct thread is the way to go.

If you shoot long range or any precision type shooting steer clear of cheap flash hides or anything that isn't balanced. Some flash hides are tuned to direct the gas out of the top and right side. This COULD effect accuracy, whereas a balance one that pushes gas out all sides or left and right etc it more than likely won't effect accuracy.

The Smith Enterprises Vortex flash hider practically eliminates all flash and has minimal impact on POI. Not too expensive either.

I got the one from @White that I think will work great. At most this will be a 100yd rifle. Its just my deer gun.
