I'm sure we've all thought back 20-30 years about guns that were relatively inexpensive and plentiful that have since become much more scarce and demand a premium. For me, that was the HK 91's, SP89's and 94's that I remember seeing at gun shows with my dad when I was a young lad. They populated my dreams for years, and still do.
In my opinion....future classics depend a bit on:
Scarcity driven by relative expense compared to other competitors in the same segment, proliferation in media (look at how westerns have moved the Colt SAA and Winchester lever action market), and overall enduring build quality and mystique.
Which guns fit that bill now?
I have a feeling about:
The Bushmaster ACR (not because it's the most incredible rifle on the planet, but it's been largely outshone by the SCAR) and there will probably be fewer of them in circulation long term.
The FN SCAR, FS 2000, and maybe PS90 They are pricey compared to counterparts, well built, in a lot of movies and video games, and a bit "boutiquey"....that equals future classic.
Kriss? Maybe.
Tavor
HK Mark 23
In the more near future: Smith 19's , 66's, and 29's.
Others that come to mind?
