Is That A Ruger BX Trigger?

So you buy a 10/22 that's advertised to have a BX trigger. Do you know what to look for?

Unfortunately this occurred to me! I purchased a 10/22 Target Lite. It comes from factory with a BX Trigger. I purchased it new from a dealer. Other than I really didn't think it felt like a light trigger I had no clue until I bought a billet trigger for it and didn't fit. I found out from Ruger there is a very easy way to identify a BX Trigger!

Can you spot the BX Trigger?

If you removed the stock from the gun, it is not really easy to identify! There are no special markings on the polymer housing. They actually both have the same mold number stamp on the inside of the polymer housing.

To identify the BX Trigger, you do need to pull the trigger assembly, if installed in a gun. If the BX Trigger in sold separately it is easier to identify.

It's easy to identify it by one simple part! With the hammer cocked back, you will want to look at the lower part of the hammer to identify.



A standard 10/22 trigger, is flat & square-ish at the bottom of the hammer.



A BX Trigger, is shaped kind of like a cross on the bottom of the hammer.

Now, if you actually take apart the trigger assembly there are actually some other differences. The trigger, the sear, and the disconnector are all different!

Sear on Left is BX, Right is standard.






Disconnector on left is BX, right is Standard.




The Standard trigger has disconnector pin towards the rear of the trigger.




BX trigger has disconnector pin towards the center of the trigger.




So, as you can tell now, it is very easy for someone to tell you they are selling you a BX Trigger and if you're not sure about the weight of pull or what to look for, you could be had!

With just learning what I'm doing, I would have no idea what to polish, @Mac11FA!

But one thing I do know now, is how to take it apart! It is very simple and I could probably do it blind folded!

At least you got me beat! I would not know how to take it apart. Simply polish any mating surfaces with Simichrome or another good metal polish.

Ok so I pulled my triggers out and I have one of each. The Design Contest Winner has a BX in it and the Standard has a plain trigger in it.

Lt is BX. Rt is standard

Also the hammer on the BX sits lower than the standard.

oh wow, this page is a life saver!! I had my BX and O.E triggers pulled apart at the same time.. and somwhere along the way I got things mixed up!! can you tell me if the SEAR spring is the same in both triggers? I was cleaning my BX trigger and the sear spring just F***ed right off on me.. so I borrowed the sear spring from my O.E trigger.. and i'll get ruger to send me another just whenever if they are the same.....
