Interesting article in the new issue of NRA Rifleman addressing the ammo shortage/hoarding. The author gives a example of a friend that calls him, bragging about scoring 5000 rds of 22.ammo he scored. When the author stopped him short with the Question Why? You never usually buy more than 500. His answer was "I'm buying all I can get." There are over a "Billion" rounds of .22 cal produced every year in this county and Homeland security is NOT buying it all up. The greedy hoarders are.

I was in a Dick's Sporting goods store some time ago and they had just received 6 boxes of .22 cal. The guy in front of me, told the clerk he wanted ALL OF THEM. I asked the customer if I could have one box, and he did not like that request, but did allow me to have one only and did not offer any more. Not much to say about this man's character in my opinion.

Last week I was in Walmart and they had received some Tula 380. And to Walmart's credit, it was the standard pricing and not a gouged price. They also have the sign that say's "only 3 boxes per customer". They had 4 boxes left. My first instinct was to buy all three. But then I asked myself if I want to be part of the hypocrisy that exist now in this sport. I choose to buy only ONE. Better to give some other guy a chance. A small token on my part, but maybe some other guy will do the same, and maybe we can all join in and stop this greedy nonsense that plagues this sport.

It is time we hall became true "SPORTSMEN".

I agree Dave! I have ceased my dawn recon patrol for ammo. I have what I need, and not in excess. I have been standing down on this.

Agreed. All my life I've over bought on everything. Hell's bells, I have 2 cars and a pick up right now and I usually have a car, a truck or van and a convertable. And on guns I started buying pairs. Why not? Just got two 1911s and 2 LC 9s.

I wouldn't hoard, by any means, it's just that when I buy ammo, I'm usually in for about $100, more or less, a couple of times a month and when I shoot, I usually shoot $80 worth of ammo more or less, a couple of times a month.

I was at my local Fin Feather Fur (30 miles from me) and standard pistol rounds are coming back and I am happy to see the Fin doing their part as well only offering one box of ammo per customer. I am guessing thats why they have it, Last month it was $22.95 for a box of 50 FMJ 9mm this month it is $18.95.

Maybe we'll all be shooting again by this summer!
Still, the Outdoor Channel mentioned air guns several times this week.
It may be good to incorporate them into your arsenal... just in case.

I stopped by Walmart yesterday to chat with a clerk that I have gotten to know over the years. I asked her if she had seen ANY ammo in .22 cal. come in. NO, she said that Walmart is not ordering any more. She took her inventory/stock gun, scanned .22 cal. product and showed me the results. IT SAID YOU DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORIZATION to ORDER THIS PRODUCT. What the heck is that all about?

They said they have always ordered it off the floor as part of standard inventory procedures. What I do not understand about the .22 cal. shortage is where is this ammo going? The Online guys are not getting any, Walmart not receiving any or placing orders.

Where the heck is this ammo going from the manufacturer?

I sure hope so as I just paid for a years membership to this cool outdoor range, I would hate for my wife to say I told you so! She is all for me belonging to a range but though I should wait to see how things are going in a month or two. I miss shooting so much I will just go there a shoot a few rounds an hour if I have to just to be in the atmosphere and soak up some sun, what else would I do in the evenings during the week besides watch TV all summer, no thanks.

I know the feeling, was hoping to renew my range membership at the end of this month, but what is the point. I don't have money to just waste.

I don't either and I could have put that towards a new gun as I already have about $170.00 the the new gun kitty, (yes I have a new gun piggy bank :D) but I do feel better knowing I have a good place to go and can go there antime during daylight hours 7 days a week. No regrets.
