There are a lot of 300Blk rifles out there, but with Wolf set to import cheap 9x39 will it overtake the 300 in popularity?

Mebbe?

Well, 300 blk still hasn't truly hit it big in the caliber offerings...so that should make it easier for another round to take over the same role. Maybe one will take off if HPA ever passes and people start shooting suppressed far more. Till then, I don't see either round truly sweeping the market...unless the 9x39 can be offered at $.25/round.

I would think that the main market would be an AK chambered for it. There are lots and lots of 300blk owners out there and I don't imagine they would be Turing in their uppers and ammo for it.I still don't understand why 300 ammo is pricey, it's pretty cheap to reload, but hopefull thinking would lead me to think that factory 300 ammo would drop in price a bit.

It wont take it over for a number of reasons. It will be more expensive than 300blk, there wont be cheap brass to convert, and theres only one ammo manufacturer.

That being said, the thought of owning an AS VAL makes me giddy

I think it’s FAR from a .300 killer. I think it’ll just become the AK equivalent. At least I hope so. As @chance pointed out, an AS VAL would be EPIC. ESPECIALLY for hogs!

After reading the Wiki page:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9×39mm It looks like the round is primarily developed to be subsonic. The basic loading of 259 gr projectile will travel at 920 FPS and generate ft/lbs of energy. This is similar ballistics to a .45 ACP round out of a pistol. Basically, "since the bullet weight is twice that of 9X19 it will generate twice the muzzle energy of a 9X19. At the subsonic velocity, the 9X39 round has an effective range of 300 to 400 meters and the ability to penetrate 8mm of steel at that distance.

Also, according to the article in THE Firearm Blog, most of the 9x39 ammo will be banned from importation due to the fact that it is armor piercing. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/07/07/potd-9x39mm-us/

I tried googling for an upper and ammo for sale and no joy. There are a couple of rifles for this round, the VSK-94 and the 9A-91 but because these are Russian made and we can't buy them, good luck finding one.

i would be super interested in it. If they can import it cheap enough it could make a good showing. I think it would also be a very interesting round for hand loaders to get ahold of. imagine instead of using a 260gr 9mm they switch it with just standard nato 124 which would make for one cooking of a round, maybe get a multiple use round like super and sub 300blk.

I wonder if it’s the same diameter though? I know the 9 mm Makarov isn’t the same as a 9 mm Luger. It’s just a touch larger in diameter.

Actually, yes. The makarov round is 9.27x18.10 and the 9mm parabellum is 9.01mm by 19.15mm GIVE or take. I had a PA-63 and I loved that pistol! I sold it to a friend who was just starting CCW very cheap.

Ive been looking for over a year, and i dont think there is a single russian 9x39 rifle in the country. They were fairly low production and issued to more specialized units.
It would only make sense to import this ammo if there are guns chambered in it. Wolf did bring in the t-91 upper, and they sell out pretty quick. Im starting to think that was a catalyst to get into more weapons manufacturing, and they will be making more stuff for this cartridge

I love how Russia's newest, cutting edge firearms look identical to what they were fielding in the 1960's.

We could say the same about the B52, M16, M2, M14, 1911, M60, M61, Minute Man Missles...

lolz, but we'd be lying and missing the fact that modern US weapons platforms don't typically look like steampunk abortions.
