No paperwork required for silencers (just tax stamp / trust), only need paperwork for SBR / FA etc

Some people do the Form 5320.20 with silencers to CYA. I don't think it's a bad idea as most LE aren't aware of the regs.

Probably not a bad idea to CYA if you are going through a state that bans them. If I were to run into an issue, I had planned to just show them the bottom portion of my tax stamp where it says:
