Throwing this out there for those with experience.

Years ago I consolidated all of my pistols to .45 caliber and currently run an Octane 45 can.

I've had the itch to add another pistol to the safe, possibly a VP9 tactical, but I'm curious if I should even bother with 9mm. Is it worth jumping back into 9mm (including stocking ammo) just to have another platform to suppress?

While I prefer .45 for my pistols (I tend to shoot .45 more accurately than 9mm, especially double-taps)... the thing is that I have this can that will do 9mm too ... ;)

I run the Octane 45 on my VP9 using 147 gr ammo. It is nice and quiet, maybe not quite as quiet as 45 but darn close.

115gr 9mm will be louder than 230gr 45. Most 147 will be quieter and less gassy than 45. 147 and up suppressor ammo will be far quieter than 45. Stuff like freedom hush 165 through a good host and can is nearly 22 quiet.
Its definitely worth having a 9mm host

The octane 45 works fine for 9mm. It is what I run on the mac that is until I bought dedicated can for it.

Definately use 147gr ammo
