Gun storage while on a cruise ship

We are going on a cruise in a few weeks. The cruise is leaving from Miami and we are driving down from Atlanta over the course of 3 days and staying at various beach hotels along the way. My question concerns the final destination. Once we get to Miami I can either park at the pier parking for $20 a day or at an off site lot for $6 per day.

In either case, I have to leave my gun behind. Where should I put my sidearm while I'm on the ship? My wife and I are thinking that we should wrap it in a towel and store it in the engine compartment. Our thoughts are that anyone breaking into our truck over the proceeding 10 days would find noting and move on.

Thoughts?

Disassemble it and put the parts in different places throughout your vehicle...engine bay, behind interior trim pieces...or secret the pieces in your anal cavity on the ship. We all know you're just going to take ti apart and bring it on the ship anyway. Do they open your luggage and inspect it before you board? I've never been on a cruise.

Trucks are harder. I bought a lock box, put it in the spare tire compartment of my car, and chained the box to the floor of the compartment. My girlfriend recently had a break-in and they looked everywhere for stuff except her spare tire compartment. Plus, it being locked to the compartment itself and in a safe.. good to go. The safe is pretty cheap too.

Soak it with rust preventative and put it in two large ziplock bags. Zip tie it up underneath of the vehicle.

I also like strider's air filter box recommendation.

I have a small lock box with a steel cable in my center console. But a determined thief with a pair of bolt cutters could get it out.

This may be a dumb idea, But could you pawn it and pay it back as soon as your off the boat. Might have to pay a few bucks of interest but it would be safe at a pawn shop while your gone.

  1. Can't pawn it in Florida. When you pawn a gun you have to fill out a 4473 to get it back.
  2. No, you can't carry it on board any more than trying to carry it on a flight to a foreign country.
  3. I like the idea of sticking it in the air filter housing.

I didint know about the 4473, I have never pawned a gun.

I was lucky, my cruise left from tampa so I left my gun with my uncle while I was gone.

I've never pawned one either but someone on another gun site posted about getting "denied" when they went back to get their pawned gun.

Yeah, you'd have to be a FL resident.

that sucks. this is going to sound bad. But do you have a cheaper gun to bring that god forbid it gets stolen your not out a huge amount? It would suck to lose one of your HKs.

I may just pick something up for that. Maybe I will snag one of those SW99's and ammo at Eds.

a mouse gun like a TCP or LCP might would work. See if you can find a panel thats easily removed inside the car and tuck it in there.

I used to drop the glove box and put my gun on top of the heater box in the dash when i was leaving it for more than a day or so.

Good idea but I think I want something a little more comforting driving that far and being gone that long.
