Golden bullet rim explosion

Shooting my Ruger SR22p which never fails after thousands of rounds, I had a Remington golden bullet explode at the rim. Shook me up a little.
I also shoot a Bersa 22.cal and the gun will only shoot high velocity ammo. And the golden bullets function almost as well as the CCI mini mags.They cycle the gun well. I have had a few split cases with the Golden, but usually no problem and they shoot fine. However this one cartridge has me wondering. Do you have any ideas what caused this? Here is a similar pic of a guy that had the same problem. I was lucky the bullet did not stay in the barrel. I doubt it is the gun, but really curious.

OOB, that shell, for some reason, fired Out Of Battery. Here's one that I had;

a Winchester. The shell didn't feed quiet all the way and the hammer slipped off the sear, POOM!, big smokey mess. I changed the sear and wha-la, fixed.

Vertocoli, thanks for the reply, and I have seen others say the same thing. However, i went on shooting with no problems. I'm wondering if I should contact Ruger. One thing I have found, this is a occurrence with others on strictly the Golden point. You are the first I have seen with another brand of ammo.

Good answer Verti! I've read about that happening on a .223 with to much carbon build up in the chamber preventing the cartridge from seating properly.

With a .22, it's just smoke and you have to poke the mangled brass out. That pic Dave posted shows an evident firing pin strike. That's why I post this Win pic as lots of folks dis RGBs. Is it 'cause people shoot a lot of RGBs you see more malfs? My issue was a bargan basement vq sear. Smooth trigger with a slam fire or 2 now and then.

Did the sr 22 slam fire? Was the trigger pulled while oob and the hammer fell? Or, a maybe slow feed was ignited by something other than the firing pin before going into battery? Or a freak fluke, shake it off and no harm done.

Sounds like a stuck firing pin. I remember closing the breach on an old Savage double. A firing pin was stuck and the round went off before the breach was locked! I should have caught the broken return spring and bent firing pin the last time I cleaned the weapon. I learned from that. They taught me to always point the muzzle in a safe direction and if I spaced out that day one of the dogs or a friend could have been shot. Den

Bigdogdaddy, Besides a little surprise, I had a lot of powder residue on my Left hand, (I'm right handed). Like I said, the bullet exited out of the barrel with no problem, I was more worried about the gun. I really think it was the shell casing and not the firing pin or firing oob. Especially since the only split casing have been golden bullets. I think they may have loaded to much powder in the case. I bought these Golden Bullets on sale at Dick's which lead me to believe that they were "not the New and Improved". The older bullets were know to have many issues.

Makes sense that it MAY have been a bad lot. I bought soome mail order RGB some years ago that wouldn't run in any gun. The box wasn't like the WM bulk RGBS.

The Rems have always done me well, I really don't want to shoot all the dogs, because one has fleas. The Rems cycle my Bersa just like the CCI's and are pretty much near the accuracy and a lot cheaper. I have since shot about 500 rds with no problems.

I think right now we are forced to shoot what we already have in stock at our house or what we can find. I don't think any of the president's plans include taking away .22 ammo but people are panic buying that too.

The Remington Goldens 225 pack is what I have been using. I went through 3 packs of them in the last 6 weeks and no issues. All fired, no duds or light strikes.
